Until recently, convinced that students do not play a political role in developed industrialized societies. However, students are of great political significant, especially in developing areas. Countries with revolutionary nationalist groups (army officers) in power, students are a source of constant, permanent political pressure. These conditions do no exist in advanced industrial societies. Us and europe: universities functions are preparation for qualified career positions, production of technically exploitable knowledge, and transmission of a culture that science and technology have been rooted in versus uprooting. Habermas has been witnessing student protests that surpass (in scope and method) the proportions customary since the end of the war. Active, generally highly qualified minority of students (social sciences and humanities) leading struggle against majority of professors. Germany: universities are state institutions with the power of self-government, there are no independent administrations against which students would organize.
