The largest non-theist religion in the world, and the third largest religion overall (behind. Atheism comes, however, in a variety of different forms. These all accept materialism- the idea that there is nothing that exists except those things that can be empirically verified, weighed, counted, or otherwise measured. Paul tillich"s famous definition of religion, for example, is one"s ultimate concern. this means that religion isn"t simply about beliefs, but about beliefs which orient one"s whole life (they provide what is called a "worldview"). Religion has to do with something which is ultimate- which is more important than anything else. The specific figures, texts, special days, teachings, etc. of each form of atheism differ from one another. For secular humanists the focus is the humanist manifestos. For marxism, karl marx, lenin and mao and their writings lay out the system, which is a religious, social, political, and economic system all wrapped up into one.
