Document Summary
Avery welch ah 3121 immunology week 11 chapter 10 notes 11/10/15 & 11/12/15. Self-tissue transferred from one body site to another; skin grafts in burn victims are an example. It is separated into component cells and plasma. The patient is given the component that is needed. He established the existence of abo human blood groups by verifying the presence of hemagglutinins in normal human sera and that were 4 blood groups: a, b, ab, and o. Inheritance is determined by a polymorphic locus on chromosome 9. There are 3 alleles: a, b, and o, and we inherit one abo gene from each parent: a and b express dominant phenotypes over o and are codominant over each other. There are 4 phenotypes based on agglutinating antibodies normally present in serum: type a: anti-b ab, type b: anti-a ab, type ab: neither antibody, type o: anti-a and anti-b antibody.
