Document Summary

Electricity - phenomena associated with the presence and flow of electric charge. Electric current (a=1 c/s) - flow or movement of charge (carried by electrons or ions): = charge of proton = charge of electron. Electric circuit - path an electric current flows, usually necessary to be a closed path. Electric field - in presence of electric charge it is the force acting upon other charges in the vicinity. Electric potential (v) - ability of the electric field to do work on the charge, generates flow of charge/force trying to move the charge. Oxidation-reduction reactions - oxidation is the loss of electrons while reduction is the gain of electrons. Half-reaction method - splits oxidation-reduction reactions into their oxidation half and reduction half. See section 4. for more on oxidation-reduction reactions. Galvanic (voltaic) cells - electrochemical cells in which spontaneous oxidation-reduction reactions produce electrical energy. Half reactions are separated so that current can flow through an external wire.
