Bigger effects for the turks: new wealth into anatolia, new industrial and commercial interests, naval power in the mediterranean and black seas, population grew a ton- constantinople was the largest city in the world outside of china. Slaves were the back bone of the ottoman empire. The number of slaves owned showed status. Many people were enslaved as children so parents could pay child tax . Most slaves were christian because muslims cannot enslave other.
