Teaches man five precepts: abstain from killing, abstain from theft, abstain from lewdness, abstain from lies, abstain from intoxicants. Teaches man to divide money into: household, business, help the needy, save against an unfortunate day. Buddha learns of another teacher named sanjaya dissented from. Brahmin teachings; not a believer of logic: followers were mahamaud-galyayana (mulian) and shariputra. Two left sanjaya to pursure true path of understanding. Shariputra sees ashvajit, o(cid:374)e of buddha"s followers asks who his teacher was hurries and tells mulian this is the teacher they are looking for. Mulian and shariputra soo(cid:374) (cid:271)e(cid:272)o(cid:373)e buddha"s (cid:373)ost i(cid:373)porta(cid:374)t assista(cid:374)ts. Full moon on 15th day of 3rd month, buddha teaches 1,250 arhats and bhikshus and lay followers how to avoid evil, do good, and put minds at rest. Becomes festival of reverencing the dharma: event just happened no prior planning. King shuddhodana hears siddhartha has achieved true awakening asks. Kalodayin (cid:894)trusted courtier, siddhartha"s (cid:272)hildhood play(cid:373)ates/ tea(cid:272)hers(cid:895) to bring him home.
