Achilles calls for an assembly, announcing he will return to battle. Agamemnon says he will return briseis to him achilles does not care about that, and only wants to kill hector. Achilles scolds his chariot horses for allowing patroclus to be killed horses say that apollo and/or destiny were at fault. Horses also say that achilles will surely die achilles does not care, and rides with them to fight hector. Zeus lets gods choose sides, but must respect fate. Gods start helping their teams battle rages furiously. Achilles kills everyone, and is about to kill aeneas aeneas saved by poseidon because it is his destiny to be the last survivor amongst the trojan leaders. Book 21: suppressing the rebellion of a river. Achilles follows fleeing trojans to xanthos (scamander) river. Gods also start fighting each other achilles is still killing people. Hector stands along outside of troy to challenge achilles.
