The first priority of the coalition government has been to cut the deficit in the belief that it will stimulate private sector investment and consumption and lead to economic growth regaining its precrisis level. In pursuit of this objective , it has cut public expenditure on a range of public services. The government now blames the world recession as the cause of its difficulties, while the labour party, now in opposition blame the coalition government.
