Created to assist a group of students to successfully read, understand, learn from, and enjoy a selection of text. Tailored to your students, the texts, and intended outcomes. Planning phase (who is reading, what are they reading, what is their purpose for reading) Remind students of prior knowledge that will help them understand the text. Pre teach parts of the selection that may be difficult. Prequestioning, predicting, setting direction - what to look for while reading. Suggest strategies - strategies they already know. Considering literary elements - already known elements; 2 or 3 per text. Supported reading - focuses students" attention to a particular part of the text - learn something from reading. Traditional study activities - note taking, underlining, annotating. Modifying the text - make lengthy/difficult text more accessible. Synthesize and organize info learned from text. Questioning - higher-order thinking; orally or in writing. Application and outreach activities - direct activities.
