5. National origin
• 5 Employment Actions:
1. Discharge/firing
2. Refusal to hire
3. Compensation decisions
4. Promotion decisions
5. Terms of employment (where and when you are
required to work/ work place conditions)
• Only employers who employ 15 or more employees
can be covered by the Civil Rights Act
• Always illegal to discriminate based on race and color.
Usually illegal to discriminate based on religion, sex,
and national origin (bona fide occupational
qualification -- BFOQ)
• Employee can't sue directly. They have to file
complaint first.
