Adl (act of daily living)- self help tasks: bathing, dressing, toilet. Iadl- more intellectually demanding daily living tasks such as housework, cooking, managing money. Of the elderly don"t have these problems. Rate of disability among 85 + steady decline. 60% need help with at least one adl. Frail elderly- old adults whose physical/ mental impairments are so extensive that they cannot care for themselves. Most common chronic health conditions: hypertension (high blood pressure) Arthritis- inflammation in the joints pain and stiffness. Women are more likely to have arthritis. Wake up more often at night and decrease in rem. Continues until blood sugar drops impairing---> old people tend to overreact/ eat all the time.
