Introverts have higher level of cortical arousal: typically operate at/near optimal amount, seek solitude to prevent overstimulation, sensitivity to stimulation, essentially the same as differences in cortical activity. Introverts quickly overwhelmed by stimulation of crowded social gathers: extraverts are content, extraverts bored by slow-moving movie plots & soft music. Inhibited: fearful, reluctant in social activities, uneasy with strangers. Inhibited and uninhibited children: most traits change a little over time, one was extremely stable, children who were passive & cautious in new situations showed similar patterns as adults. Inhibited children: 10% of kids, controlled & gentle. Monitored/restrained/soft when throwing a ball or kicking over a tower: cling to mom & dad in new situations, slow to explore, uninhibited children, 25% of children. Jump into new situations: anxiety to novelty. Inhibited children: cautious about/fearful of new people & situations, turn away from strangers, physical differences, body build, susceptibility to allergies, eye color.
