Document Summary

Primary behavior control system is the nervous system. Organism"s internal response system = behavior: internal response system = biological adaptation (step toward behavior flexibility) Organisms have agency: agency their ability to act, as unified entities on the world. Sir charles sherrington: studied design and function of the response system, defined behavior based on stimuli and responses. Stimulus = an event: change in an organism"s environment for example. Response = behavior as a result of a stimulus. An organisms behavior is considered behavior if there is an event that causes a response within the organism. For an agent to be effective, it needs to respond to a stimuli faster than other things in the environment that cause responses. Adaptive behavior: depends on the organism"s situation and its history. Some behaviors are simpler than others, and others are more complex and could obtain multiple outcomes. Eyes, ears anything that can connect the nervous system directly with the environment.
