Document Summary

The nucleolus is where rna is made. There are 3 types of rna: messenger rna (mrna), transfer. Rna (trna), and ribosomal rna (rrna) which is the most abundant. Mrna is in the shape of a single strand. Trna"s single strand is folded to form a clover like shape. Rrna is a globular shape all folded with 2 subunits (large and small) which is what makes up ribosomes. Rna is found both in the nucleus and in the cytoplasm at the ribosome (depending on what type) Rna is used to make proteins by process of protein synthesis. Rna"s building blocks are nucleotides made of ribose sugar, Phosphate, 1 nitrogen base (a, u, c, g) The new strand is then released from the nucleus, is modified by cutting out the non-coding segments of introns, leaving the coding segments the exons, and then sent to the ribosome in the cytoplasm to perform translation.
