Declarative memory (or explicit memory) long-term memory knowledge that is retrieved and reflected on consciously. There are 2 types of declarative knowledge: episodic memory and semantic memory. Nondeclarative memory (or implicit memory) knowledge that influences thought and behavior without any necessary involvement of consciousness. The key to this distinction is conscious awareness one has it, one doesn"t. Episodic memory enables you to record your personal history. Your semantic memory is your encyclopedia, while your episodic memory is your mental slide show. An important aspect of episodic memories is that they are integrated mental representations. Different bits and pieces of information from different parts of our conscious and unconscious mental worlds are woven together. Episodic memory uses a rich variety of information about a broad range of human experience.
