Sociologists use research tools and analysis to develop their theories. Sociological perspective- the ability to see the societal patterns that influence individual and group life. Sociological imagination- by c. wright mills, the ability to see societal patterns that influence the individual as well as groups of individuals. Example: many people worry and try very hard to be beautiful as they feel society defines beauty. Troubles- privately felt problems that spring from events or feelings in a person"s life. Mills believes that a larger social force shapes individuals. Empirical- the sociological conclusions are based on systematic observations. Debunking- looking behind the facades of everyday life. Look for patterns that form the behaviors in society. Critical distance- being able to detach from the situation at hand and view things with a critical mind.
