Socialization- the process through which people learn the expectations of society. Internalization- occurs when behaviors and assumptions are learned so thoroughly that people no longer question them, but simply accept them as correct. Roles- the expected behavior associated with a given status in society. Personality- a person"s relatively consistent pattern of behavior, feelings, and beliefs. Socialization can be different depending on age, race, gender, and class. Social control- process by which groups of individual within those groups are brought into conformity with dominant social expectations. Conforming to social expectations does not cause someone to lack individuality. Conformity has negatives, examples including women getting eating disorders to meet beauty ideals and men dying younger due to anger. Socialization agents- people, sources, or structures that pass on social expectations. Families teach children their own expectations in society. Expectations can be different from family to family. Media can have negative effects on child.
