Part i: thinking about visual ethnography: historical, theoretical and. Expect the unexpected including the possibility of new visual ethnographic innovations and/or interdisciplinary encounters along the way. Part i offers a grounding in the historical disciplinary, theoretical, practical and ethical issues that inform a researcher. One: visual ethnography across disciplines: doing visual ethnography can take you far beyond your original discipline. Christina lammer is an example of someone who does visual work in relation to other disciplines. Her blog shows how she combines these different perspectives and media in her research and arts practice. She takes portraits of herself doing facial exercises designed for patients she"s working with. Doing that allows her to be more empathetic with her patients experiences: disciplinary concert and visual ethnographic research. Visual anthropology should be informed by recent theoretical turns to theories of place and space, practice, movement and the senses.
