Even back when homo sapiens came about we looked for spiritual guidance for things such as: food, water, and good weather. Core meanings of modern english words can be discovered by looking up their origins in latin or greek history, our appreciation of world religions can be enriched by understanding the origins of religion itself. Animism: belief in an inner soul that gives life and identity to living things and emphasizes rituals in which humans interact with other souls. The universality of religion in human societies even led mireca eliade, pioneering scholar of comparative religions, to call our species. Homo religiosus, in other words, religious humanity : religions origins, hunter gatherers. 99% of the human species ancestors lived as nomadic hunter- gatherers. Lived by land and water and hunted together depending on seasons. The diet only consisted of about 105 different foods.
