Nazis would have gained control of the continent. Atomic bomb would have been dropped on central europe. During 1942 there were three plans under consideration by the allies: Sledgehammer: limited invasion of france in september to aid the russians. Gymnast: plan to invade north africa (churchill favored) The atlantic wall scheme designed to offset feebleness in the west of the luftwaffle. 51: hitler"s objective to strengthen ob west"s forces is important, reinforce panzer and panzer grenadier divisions. Overlord was codenamed to persuade the germans that the landing would fall in pas de calais rather than normandy or brittany.
