Acceleration: change in velocity occurring during a period of time: both speeding up & slowing down count as acceleration, a = v , usually measured in m/sec 2 t. F = m x a: acceleration is proportional to force applied, expressed in newtons (standard unit of force in metric system, acceleration also depends on amount of matter being accelerated (along with force) (greater mass = less acceleration) A = f / m: acceleration grows in proportion to force applied, but inversely proportional to the mass of the object. 15. 3 - action & reaction: newton"s third law of motion. Law of action-reaction : when two bodies interact, they create equal & opposite forces on each other, dependent on mass. Moon orbits around earth & not vice versa because earth has a greater mass.
