Document Summary

This myth also exists because we are far more likely to hear about people with positive attitudes that beat cancer than those that died from cancer despite being optimistic, because these make for better headlines or interviews. Similarly, people with cancer find it comforting that their attitude can affect the outcome of their health so they reinforce this myth. However studies show that there is no connection between stress or emotion and cancer. Some studies have even demonstrated the opposite findings, such as nielson"s research done in copenhagen on over 6,000 women who were followed for more than 16 years. Those that reported high stress were actually 40% less likely to develop breast cancer than those who reported low stress levels. Other studies show that there has yet to be proof of a link between positive attitude/emotions and cancer survival.
