Document Summary

Unique and relatively stable and enduring patterns of behavior, thoughts, and emotions shown by individuals. Key element: uniqueness, every person possesses a distinct pattern of traits and characteristics not fully duplicated in any other person, stability, over time and across different situations, these traits manifest themselves. Personality traits are not fleeting, momentary reactions like feelings or moods: anxious, mood vs anxious personality. Personality is your inner self that shines through and predicts your behaviors in many different situations over time. However, while people bring their personality to the way they act and react to different situations, the external situation itself can sometimes determine behavior rather than personality. Situational characteristics play a role: by inhibiting some personality traits, or facilitating and exaggerating other personality traits, sometimes situational variables play a greater role in predicting behavior, other times personality variables predominate. Individual responds to an ambiguous stimulus: scoring of projective test depend on the expertise and experience of the clinician interpreting it.
