Document Summary
Children try to solve a problem or conduct an investigation of their own. They problem or investigation may have been suggested by the teacher or a peer, however the lesson itself requires the children to generate their own approach to solving the problem. The teacher is responsible for guiding the lesson. The student needs to actively participate in developing their own approaches, strategies and solutions. Used when the teacher wants to communicate new knowledge or to teach specific procedures. Includes opportunities for students to participate in guided practice using the concept or skill with guidance and feedback from the teacher. 3 phases: introduce: teach, reflect/summarise, exploration lessons: teacher provides a series of learning activities (explorations) for students to work on. Explorations should be structured so children can complete the activity without teacher assistance using the assigned materials. Exploration activities can be linked by a particular topic and can be organised so that there are various levels of difficulty and complexity.
