Week 5: health care system and social determinants of health: understand how the health system can work as a social determinant of health, there is lots of evidence that health systems are a social determinant of health. The health system is an important social determinant health. Health care services are just one of many things a health care system performs. There are many ways for a good health care system to function as a supportive social determinant of health. For instance, the health sector can play a leadership and advocacy role in the development of policies to deal with the social determinants of health (csdh, 2008). It also can engage people and communities in the coproduction of patient- focused, integrated health services. As mentioned earlier, a good health system has a range of attributes that help reducing disadvantages by tackling social determinants of health. Accessible: individuals should make use of health care services wherever and whenever they need them.
