(genesis 3:15 niv) The ties between the man and the serpent are archaic, intrinsically bound to societal structures of belief, mythology and evolutionary genetics. I travelled once to a place known for its abundance of snakes, a perilous pathway to a garden of beauty in the heart of south india. The serpent is sacred in these parts, tied to the very essence of nature herself. This road was uneven, waylaid with jagged stones and shrouded in twisted branches that hung from a foliage so dense it denied the sun its light. I saw dozens of snakes as i passed, though in truth i saw not one.
