Document Summary

Infection in synovial sheath, e. g. pinprick through muscle into synovial fluid. An infection in the synovial sheath of the index finger will remain in the finger, but one in the pinky will travel up to the synovial compartment at the wrist (ulna bursa) Actions that use extension and abduction of thumb a lot can cause de quervain"s tenosynovitis. Fusiform: sharp, narrow tendons at proximal and distal ends; wide belly. e. g. triceps, biceps. Muscle fibre goes along entire length of muscle. Parallel: shorter muscle fibres that go through the entire length, stronger action. Contractile element is all along the length of the muscle. Convergent: starts from wide origin, goes to narrow insertion; carries tension from wide space (bone) to small space. Pennate (feather-like): obliquely oriented fibres inserting into the side of a tendon; all muscle fibres align along one tendon. Shorten less but produce stronger contractions - can pack muscle power in small space.
