Document Summary
Various factors influence the way you form impressions about others. Use cues to form inferences (associations are formed b/w cues and inferences) -> all inferences form impression of the person. One group of participants rated 66 faces on how trustworthy, competent, likeable, and aggressive - compute for each face the avg. ratings on these characteristics. A diff group viewed the same photos for 100ms, 500ms, and 1000ms, and made a snap judgment about each person"s personality on the same characteristics. Regardless of how long, 100ms is enough to make a judgment. Considered judgement is much the same as snap judgement. Ppl from east and south asian backgrounds tend to see the person within the social context. Miller (1984) examined american and oriya children"s and adults" person perceptions. He must have been in a state of shock. He was aggressive in pursuing his career success. It was his duty to be in court for the client he was representing (situational characteristics)
