L1 metabolic regulation life lives in different external environments. Metabolism: large amount of energy lost, about 40% efficiency. Basal or standard metabolism: the metabolism that prevent us from dead pumping blood . Enzymes and substrates: proteins with specific 3d structure, are vital to transformation of energy let the body reaches the normal temp, speed up otherwise stable or slow reactions, heat can do the same but would kill the cell. Substrate binds to active site > specificity --(cid:862)induced fit(cid:863) i. e. protein is not a rigid structure. Enzymes are organised into teams in metabolic pathways: -sequential reactions which will be infected by the removal of product. -in the sequence, has several different enzyme also the active site is not the same. Different pathways are used for biosynthesis and degradation. -putting enzymes in different compartments of the cell changing the no. of enzymes(gene expression) i. e. ethanol consumption: alcohol dehydrogenase up-regulated point mutation aldh2*2 interferes with second step.
