Vic ombudsman (march 2013) likelihood of assault/self-harm leading to death is greater now than in recent years. More money should be spent on ensuring safe and humane treatment of prisoners. Corrections vic response to ombudsman report department of justice is identifying cost effective solutions to maintain wellbeing of prisoners, especially those who are most at risk. There is increasing representation of women in prison in vic, this is not as much in other states. Crack down on parole conditions = more people in prison = overcrowding.
