Document Summary

Principles of effective treatment: there are common themes in people with addiction e. g. a history of trauma, but, important not to treat them as the same and to not assume that they are all the same. Need a detailed clinical history of the person because then we can identify the things that have led to person developing to addiction and things maintain the addiction and risk factors for relapse. So waiting lists are a huge issue for rehabilitation. An effective addiction treatment encompasses a range of mental health difficulties or medical difficulties the person may be having associated with their addition: medical detox around a week, different for different people because it can be dangerous. Needs to be done under medical supervision because for example, you can have alcohol withdrawal seizures which can lead to death unless they are medically managed.
