Communication skills are critical for all lawyers. Many disputes originate from communication issues: namely either a lack of communication or misunderstandings in communication. Effective communication requires understanding (yourself and others), empathy and flexibility. The exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, signals, writing, or behaviour. Other cultures = high context cultures, messages are communicated in ways other than words; wide range: gestures, intimation, level of your eyes. You are a product of your iq (intelligence), eq (emotional intelligence) and your cq cultural. Emotional intelligence is the way we manage our interactions with other people to achieve effective results: being able to navigate pitfalls and take advantages of situations. Cultural intelligence is ability to work across differences. There is a lot going on under the surface. The bit that we like to project and own/ acknowledge about ourselves is the very tip of the iceberg that is sticks up over the water.
