INFS1602 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Service-Oriented Architecture, In My House, Virtualization
Document Summary
Cloud = the elastic leasing of pooled computer resources over the internet. Elastic = the computing resources leased can be increased or decreased dynamically, programmatically, in a short span of time and that organisations pay for just the resources they use. A set of standard ways of requesting and receiving services over the internet: Service oriented architecture (soa): web service standards. Three factors have made cloud-based hosting advantageous today: processors = data communication and data storage are nearly free, virtualisation technology enables the near instantaneous creation of a new virtual machine. Internet-based standards enable cloud-hosting vendors to provide processing capabilities in flexible yet standardised ways. Purpose: to obtain cloud services from cloud services vendor: organised into three categories: Software as service = provides hardware infrastructure, operating system and applications as well: platform as a service = vendors provide hosted computers, an operating system and possible a dbms.
