PHRM4011 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Hepatotoxicity, Azo Compound, Rheumatoid Arthritis
Document Summary
Chronic inflammation of joints (results in degradation after awhile) with unknown cause: more severe have extraarticular (out of joint) symptoms in heart, lungs, etc, starts at age 25-55, most common in hand, feet, small limbs. Most debilitating in hip/knee: b/t-lymphocytes responsible for cell-mediated inflammation and antibodies, attract other inflammatory mediators. Diagnose if arthritis in more than 3 areas: symmetrical, stiffness for an hr in the morning rheumatoid factor antibody levels in the body, anti-ccp levels in the body, genetic history. Treatment of pain focuses on pain and reducing inflammation to slow degradation remission (pain, less swelling, less inflammatory markers by crp and esr: measure inflammation by c-reactive protein (crp), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (esr).
