Warm up and Introductory Games
1. Why a warm up is so important. It aims to physiologically and psychologically
prepare the body by:
Establishing management techniques.
Establishing boundaries.
Creating a positive learning environment. It ensures that the learning
environment is more organised and allows maximum time to be devoted to
skills based activities.
Re-enforcing stop / start signals.
Physiologically it increases the heart rate, which in turn
increases the body temperature and improves
circulation of oxygen around the body especially to
muscles and joints. Raising the temperature of the
muscles and increasing circulation in the joints helps to
prevent injury. The increase in oxygen to the muscles
also provides fuel for vigorous activity.
Improving flexibility overtime which in turn reduces injury.
Improving co-ordination and performance.
2. Stretching source your own list of stretches for your games file. Points to
remember:
Stretch for 10-30sec and hold stretch. No bouncing.
It will reduce muscle injuries and improve athletic performance.
