HLTH2000 Lecture 1: HLTH2000-Lecture 1
Document Summary
Motor skill voluntary and coordinated body, head, and/or limb movement to achieve a desired goal. Module 1: motor control : how the neuromuscular system functions to enable coordinated movement in learning new skill or performing a well-learned skill. Module 2: motor learning : acquiring new skills, refining well-learned skills, re-acquiring skills following injury, disease, etc. Module 3: motor development: skill development from infancy to old age and the pathways. L1: types of skill & performance measures. Intrinsic capacity to organise multiple body components in the accurate and efficient execution of a motor task. Ability to regulate or direct mechanisms essential to movement. Why study motor control: to de(cid:448)elop (cid:373)ethods that (cid:373)a(cid:454)i(cid:373)ise o(cid:374)e(cid:859)s perfor(cid:373)a(cid:374)(cid:272)e i(cid:374) (cid:373)otor tasks, to improve our understanding of human physiology and motor behaviour, enables practitioners to: e. g. sport, neuromuscular rehabilitation. Identify performance problems: develop intervention strategies to remediate, enhance performance, design new intervention programs, evaluate effectiveness of programs.
