Epithelial tissue cover body structures lines hollow organs, body cavities and ducts forms glands: allows the body to interact with internal and external environment. Connective tissue: protects and supports body/organs, various types of connective tissues bind organs together store energy reserves as fat help provide body with immunity to disease causing organisms. Muscular tissue composed of cells specialised for contraction and generation of force generates heat to warm body. Cell junctions: = point of contact between the plasma membranes of tissue cells. 5 important types tight junctions, adherens junctions, desmosomes, hemidesmosomes and gap junctions. Inhibit the passage of substances between cells and prevent contents of these organs from leaking into the blood or surrounding tissues.
