Weather and interpretation and technology
Principle 1
As you rise from sea level and go up the air, both the pressure of the air and its temperature fail.
Principle 2
The pressure of air is not uniform, we have areas of low pressure and areas of high pressure. Air
flows from areas of HP- areas of LP.
Principle 3
Air can hold a certain amount of water as invisible water vapour. This amount can hold in case as air
temperature increases an vice versa
Principle 4
Air of one temperature will not mix easily with air o a different temperature
Principle 5
The sun is the creator and mover of all weather.
Weather map/synoptic charts
• Based upon the measurement of air pressure = hPa
• Linked areas of equal air pressure = Isobars
Low pressure systems
Wind is travelling clockwise, in and up/ isobars closer together
High pressure
Wind is travelling anti clockwise, out and down

A cold front is the delineation between cold polar air moving towards the equator and undercutting
warm tropical air moving poleward.
