Week$5-Know$How$Students$Learn
Document Summary
Marsh, c. , clarke, m. , & pittaway, s. (2014). Why is it important to know about students learning: teacher standards- graduate. Demonstrate knowledge of how students learn and the factors that contribute to active engagement. Know the impact that student interests, needs and circumstances can have on learning, and work towards knowing the students they teach. Identify the barriers to learning and some of the options for overcoming these barriers. Is not always easily measured (churchill et al. , 2011, p. 70-71) Learning is not necessarily the "product" of teaching. Education has tended to focus on teaching rather than learning. What is taught is not necessarily what is learnt. Need to see the teacher"s body language and facial expression to full understand the content of a lesson. May think in pictures and learn best from visual displays including diagrams, illustrated text books, overhead transparencies, videos, flipcharts, handouts. Often prefer to take detailed notes to help understand the information.
