Document Summary

Dna profiles (with strs) is produced and generated. First use of dna fingerprint to match suspects/database/ other cs samples with allele frequencies and the hardy weinberg formula. P4 basis of dna profiling: obtain genome from individual, probe subsets of genetic variation to differentiate, profile needs to be reproducible other labs will need to have a similar result p5. Allele alternative form of gene at specific loci. Phenotype physical trait that is expressed, determined by genotype +/- environment p12 central dogma. Focus on parts of gene that is variable between human beings to compare and reproduce more efficiently. Mostly differ around 0. 1 to 0. 2% at the dna level (which is 3-6mil bases of 3bp genome) Microsatellites are short bp repeats that are repeated 1-50 times. Cant look at traces, touching of objects etc. Utilises tags/primers comp to dna that you want to amplify. Repeats same length = homo, differ = hetero.
