Stm = storage of info for a short time. Wm = simultaneous processing and storage for a short time. Tasks involve both processing and storage requirements. Di erentiated from storage only stm tasks (simple span tasks) Standard model of wm - a congregation of many wm models by nairne. Baddeley"s model is an example of the standard model but they are not equal. Standard model describes any model of wm with the following 3 assumptions. Stm storage is based on activation of memory representations - active representations are easily accessible. List at the end should be highly activated bc it is the most recent but bc of previous interference with earlier lists with the same category cue, performance will not be as good as expected for the last list. Then give a list with a di erent category (the release - performance will go back up bc cue e ectiveness has been restored).
