Document Summary
Five step approach to business problem solving: problem analysis. Use rich pictures to capture the symptoms of the problems. Use problem-solving framework to determine the cause/source of the problem. Figure out what can be done within the current organisational infrastructure. Brainstorming and idea reduction: brings together seemingly unrelated ideas. Storyboarding: gain an early reaction from users to the concepts proposed. Role playing: our life-experiences and cultural biases are impossible to separate from observations; getting to the root of the problem. Sampling: process of collecting a cross section of documents, forms and records: decision making. The process of selecting the best optional solution. Any optional solutions proposed need to be checked for viability against costs and benefits. Costs associated with the acquisition or development of software: solutions design. Develop the proposed solutions taking physical, logical and people factors into consideration.
