Document Summary

A narrative can be considered as another word for a story. Our world is filled with narratives and the media is one of the biggest ways that narratives can be shown. Humans have been attracted to all different types of narratives since as long as we have walked the earth only now we not only hear stories, we can also watch them on tv. Narratives are watched or heard for many things such as entertainment, information and other forms or themes. Watching narratives builds our overall knowledge and skills, and there can be a lot to be learnt. There are many different ways to analyse films- these are called theories of narrative. Each theory has is own weird title, methods and ways of thinking about texts. Some of these theories are: classical narrative cinema/classical hollywood cinema, psychoanalytic theory, auteur theory, feminist film theory, postmodernism, queer theory, postcolonial theory, new narrative.
