The Renal System
-place where urine is made
Why do we pee? What is urine for?
- Get ride of waste product
- Regulation of salt; electrolytes; ions, blood pressure related to water
-> regulate ECF (blood plasma and interstitial fluid: fluid between all of the cells)
- (we regulated) blood volume so blood pressure by ensuring right amount of water and
sodium in ECF; H+ HCO3- important for pH in blood; Ca2+ and K+
- osmolarity ensure high concentration
production of hormones (erytropoiten for stimulation of rbc production (blood and ECF);
it D activation; renin)
Composition of urine varies with component in ECF
pee out extra product dilute urine when drink a lot of fluid
cortex outer part medulla inner part
organised in triangular shape called renal pyramid drains out of tip of pyramid to
collecting structure to renal pelvis (dilate part of ureter) to ureter down to bladder
nephrons are functional units (smallest structure doing the work on kidney)of kidney
Renal corpuscle has blood supply where blood is filtered
travels through renal tubule and modified throughout the wall to collecting duct
capillary bed is glomerulus
bowmen’s capsule captured filtered fluid
proximal tubule is proximal to the renal corpuscle
2 different type of nephrons
cortical nephrons loop on Henle just dip little to medulla
Juxtamedullary nephrons have long loop of Henle to produce urine in various
concentration only 20% of this type of nephrons in our body

Document Summary

Regulation of salt; electrolytes; ions, blood pressure related to water. > regulate ecf (blood plasma and interstitial uid: uid between all of the cells) (we regulated) blood volume so blood pressure by ensuring right amount of water and sodium in ecf; h+ hco3- important for ph in blood; ca2+ and k+ Osmolarity ensure high concentration production of hormones (erytropoiten for stimulation of rbc production (blood and ecf); it d activation; renin) Renal corpuscle has blood supply where blood is ltered travels through renal tubule and modi ed throughout the wall to collecting duct capillary bed is glomerulus bowmen"s capsule captured ltered uid proximal tubule is proximal to the renal corpuscle. 2 different type of nephrons cortical nephrons loop on henle just dip little to medulla. Juxtamedullary nephrons have long loop of henle to produce urine in various concentration only 20% of this type of nephrons in our body.
