SPTH3002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Rostral Ventrolateral Medulla, Scapula, Masseter Muscle
Document Summary
Name the function of each cranial nerve, including motor, sensory and autonomic functions. Largest and most complex of 12 cranial nerves. Exits the brain by a large sensory root and smaller motor root coming out of pons at its junction with the middle cerebral peduncle. Provides sensory information (sensation) to face, also including cavities of the face and tongue (inside of mouth) If touch patient on the face and they couldn"t feel it, might consider they have difficulties feeling inside the mouth. Provides motor functions to the jaw - cn v3. Sensory and motor nuclei of trigeminal nerve (cn v) are housed in the pons. Trigeminal nerve (cn v) carries feedback about all kinds of sensation except taste from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, as well as information from the face, mouth and mandible. 2 branches unite sphenopalatine ganglion and maxillary nerve - nasal cavity, pharynx, palate. Greater palatine nerve - soft and hard palate.
