ANAT2009 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Orrorin, Lumbricals Of The Hand, Tibialis Anterior Muscle
Document Summary
Joints in which articulating bones are connected by fibrous tissue. Freely movable: articulating bones, articular cartilage, synovial membrane, synovial cavity (fluid), joint capsule, bursa capsule, collateral ligament. Sutures in skull, teeth in sockets epiphyseal plates, intervertebral disc. Muscles: muscles usually attach 2 bones, with a joint in between, the origin, the more fixed bone (more proximal) usually does not move, and produces the force, the insertion is the moveable end and is usually more distal. Important to study skull/skeletons because soft tissue deteriorates: many skulls in fossil record appropriate classification material, skull: the cranium and the mandible, cranium: the skull without the mandible, neurocranium: the part of the skull surrounding the brain. Primate evolution: genetically, chimpanzees and bonobos are the most related to humans, orangutans (asian) most ancient diversion, followed by gorillas (african, common characteristics: arboreal, dietary variation, high parental care for small number of offspring.
