Types of psychology: clinical or other related fields, applied, research. Clinical psychology: the diagnosis and treatment of psychological problems, such as phobias, anxiety, depression, sexual offences or drug addiction. Distinctions of different types of psychologists: clinical psychologist- typically had a phd and other extensive training, such as class time or internships. Tend to not prescribe medications: counselor- typically don"t have a phd and require less training than a clinical psychologist. Usually deal with less severe situations: psychiatrist- have a medical degree, with specialized training in psychiatric care. The different fields that applied psychologists work in include: human factors- help design everyday objects or equipment to provide optimal usage. Are typically employed by school boards or the government: forensic- deal with issues in which psychology plays a role in the law.
