A person might need to adjust the type of coping style based on conflicts that occur in their lives. Approach-approach: there are two possible motivations that are both attractive. (cid:863)(cid:895) Avoidance-avoidance type conflict: this is when a person is faced with two options that are both unattractive but they have to choose one. (example: two jobs that you do(cid:374)"t like but you need a job. ) Research seems to show that these conflicts are more likely to be resolved if you have the flexibility to use different coping styles. There are also external resources that influence the coping style that you will use. This includes things such as money, job, education, social support, the number of stressors present, and having a pet. Having a pet at home will influence how you cope with stress.
