Present at birth: interest, distress, disgust and contentment. Emerge between 2-7 months: anger, sadness, joy, surprise, fear. In second year, self-consciousness emotions emerge: embarrassment, shame, guilt, envy, pride. Some to do with attachment; don"t need to feel attached to feel empathy. Attachment describes close emotional relationship between 2 people, mutual affection. Participants adjust behaviours in response to partner. Occur several times a day: forms the attachment and all the work it takes to get to that place and back. How you get to that point and back to it. Relationships: time you are not in sync all the time. Attachment is pattern of that practice, not just the moment you are in sync, how you manage that relationship and make it work. Phases in infant attachment development: asocial phase (0 to 6 weeks, indiscriminate attachments (6 weeks- 6/7 months, specific attachment (7-9 months, multiple attachments (by 18 months) Made of wire, one covered with soft cloth, one just wire.
