3 lens to understand child and youth: development, exceptionalities, sociocultural start with genetics and prenatal development cover biopsychosocial (biological parts, psychological parts and social parts) approaches and developmental theories. Nature vs nurture families, caregiving and other contexts for children and youth consider how we conceptualize children and youth: ex. Inside out: development, cognition/mental processes, emotion, how self exists in society/culture. Outside in: social and cultural influences, relational, contextual (circumstances which you are born and live) (different understandings of religion, the world etc. , how society/culture shape us and how we shape them. The breakfast club -> example of socio-cultural: highlights how different people come from different backgrounds. Brock as a society: social space, organized groups, organized around rules/expectations/norms. Brock as a culture: meaning making, rituals, practices, (cid:862)way of life(cid:863, reputation. Exploring how society and culture interact to produce: Cluster them at key points of the semester ex. A week before the film assignment is due.
